Hey, its summer, glorious summer and the golden tree is bearing! They’re everywhere and I’m happy to be a participant in their glorious abundance of nutrition this year. Every afternoon after my mother returns from work we now have it as a little ritual - more on her part - to search the mango trees for available fruits. Sometimes we don’t even have to pick from the trees because they’d rather shed their own burden.
Now, I’m happy this is happening as this little gem has inspired me to write!
Benefits of Mangoes!-Yum!
Protectant Against cancer: Happy to have discovered this. I’ve learned mango contains mangiferin-xanthoid found in mango leaves which has antitumor properties. There is also this research here: “Researchers treated cells derived from several common cancers – colon, breast, leukemia, and prostate – with mango polyphenol extract. Breast and colon cancer cells were most significantly affected – the cell cycle was disrupted and they underwent programmed cell death in response to the mango extract. Normal colon cells, however, remained alive and undamaged. The researchers suggest that gallotannins, the most abundant antioxidant polyphenols contained in mango, were responsible for the anti-cancer effects.”

"In addition,
lupeol, a component of mango, has been shown to inhibit proliferation and
increase apoptosis of prostate, pancreatic and skin cancer cells in laboratory
mice. One European population study found that consumption of mangoes was
associated with lower risk of gallbladder cancer. A Mexican study found that
consumption of mangoes was associated with lower risk of gastric cancer." http://foodforbreastcancer.com/foods/mangoes

Now, anyone who’s having doubts about your health and overall wellbeing, especially if you have a history of cancer in the family, indulge in some mangoes (and other fruits with these properties). They’re known to be great, natural cancer fighters!
Source of Vitamin A ( Retinoid)
Beta carotene which becomes Vitamin A is found in mangoes. These are helpful for the eyes to focus and to receive light; helps to maintain bones; aids the body’s immune system so you’ll have a greater chance of resisting and recovering from viruses, bacteria etc., which help to weaken the body’s defense system.
Source of Vitamin C ( Ascorbic Acid)
Another immune system aid - excellent at fighting against the common cold neutralizes free radicals – attack cells in the body leading to debilitating illnesses eg. cancer, diabetes, stroke. Vitamin C is also needed for the production of collagen and aids in the proper absorption of Vitamin D in the body.
Vitamin A in the mango provides the skin with a natural glow. Mango also has hydrating properties and provides the skin with elasticity.
Certain foods that we eat increase the level of acidity in our body eg. coffee and soda, which can lead to ulcers, acidic saliva, cracked lips, acid reflux and later, worse impacting diseases. But not to worry because mango is a natural alkaliser and can help to bring the body back down to its normal level which should be between 7.35-7.45.
Juices and teas!
Mango can be made to make juices by just cutting up the fruit into slices and creating a masterpiece. Adding ginger with either honey or sugar will create a fantastic beverage!
Boiling mango leaves are great at reducing anxiety and for lowering blood pressure. Boiling and steeping the tea can be effective in aiding these problems.
There so many more benefits and purposes of this gloriousness! So, don’t be afraid to research and explore the gifts this fruit has to offer to your life!
Let me know if this has benefited you in any way. Look out for more! I might just turn this into a healthy food segment combined with beauty and youthful living using only natural sources.
