“The things that
haven’t been done before, those are the things to try”-Edgar Guest (and my Grandfather’s favourite quote).
There are a few cowardly souls out
there who have played it safe their whole life. They have never broken a rule; have
always obeyed their parents, turned up on time for work, and covered all the
material needed for a presentation just to do the “right thing.” But guess
what? That is perfectly okay; it is who you are and if your perception of
“doing right” fulfills you-go for it.
However, in order to learn you will have to
eventually step outside of your boundaries and “Try new things-get experience”. However, doing all of these
involve honesty and a tremendous amount of courage.
I’ll give you a synopsis: I’m the type of female
who plays it safe but this Summer ( Summer of 2013)I decided to take a risk and through it all I found that I was losing pieces of myself and I
was becoming rather dishonest with the people around me. I just wanted to have fun, to be someone else. However, here’s the thing- now that I have seen what could
have happened I now have great lessons to teach someone who may have tried
something similar.
There is beauty in stepping outside of the box and putting your feet on virginal grounds. New experiences tend to bring out wisdom from the lessons which you have been taught through life. Playing it safe never guarantees safety; that box or shell which you have built around yourself could get broken into without your permission, leaving you completely exposed. Yet, such is life-there is never a guarantee to anything.
Here are some pieces of advice I have to offer
on stepping off to virginal grounds:
1.
Strip yourself of fear
(2Timothy 1:
7)King James Version
Honestly, if you have fear gripping you down in
your stomach until you can’t breathe, calm down and jump in. Surprise yourself.
Be Brave! However, jump in with sense,
ask around for a bit and make your decision, and if you ever end up hitting
rock bottom that is fine because you can crawl your way back up.
2. Dive in and only if you are mentally and
emotionally prepared to do so.
3. DO it for you .Seriously; if you’re pleasing
someone else you will not be completely fulfilled. Do it for you!
4. Trying new things changes you from black and
white into a pretty mixture of colours. No, I am not saying this for its emotional
or persuasive value. I do mean it, stepping outside of your box and learning
new things does change you into a far more interesting individual. You now have
new things to talk about (stories to share). How amazing that is!
So, here it goes friends: be brave!
I look forward to hearing from you and getting a
gist of your new experiences.
